Client Challenges
City Hire Ltd's primary challenge was integrating a modern electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure into the existing layout of their office car park, located adjacent to their warehouse building.
The client required a comprehensive solution for designing and executing the electrical installation from inside the building to the designated car park areas without disrupting the aesthetic and functional integrity of the existing facilities.
Our Challenges
Our team at Voltari faced several challenges throughout the project:
1. Designing an Efficient Cable Route: The primary technical challenge was to establish the shortest yet efficient cable route to deliver sufficient power to the two new EV chargers, ensuring minimal loss and optimal performance.
2. Underground Cable Installation: A significant portion of the cable had to be buried underground to reach the designated locations in the car park. This task required careful planning to avoid any disruptions or damages to the existing infrastructure.
3. Installation Without Traditional Support Structures: The absence of a wall or similar structure in the car park for mounting the EV chargers necessitated the installation of an EV tower. This required additional groundwork and structural support to ensure stability and durability.
Solutions Implemented
To address these challenges, Voltari implemented a series of strategic solutions:
1. Custom Cable Tray Installation: A bespoke cable tray was designed and installed along the outside fabric of the building. Special care was taken to preserve the building's integrity and waterproofing during the installation process.
2. Protective Underground Conduit: A trench was dug from the building to the car park, and a protective cable conduit was installed. This conduit protected the electrical cables from potential damage, ensuring the longevity and reliability of the installation.
3. Foundation and EV Tower Installation: To overcome the challenge of the absent wall, an EV block was installed underground as the foundation for the EV tower. This provided a secure and robust base for the two charge points, effectively addressing the structural requirements of the project.
Conclusion
The installation of the two 22kw Myenergi Zappi EV car chargers at City Hire Ltd's office car park was completed successfully, with the project overcoming several technical and logistical challenges through innovative solutions and diligent execution.
This project not only facilitated City Hire Ltd in supporting their staff's transition to electric vehicles but also showcased Voltari's capability in delivering complex electrical installations with high standards of quality and safety.
Voltari remains committed to empowering businesses with sustainable and efficient energy solutions, driving forward the transition to a greener future.
